Lost in Theatreland is a team of theatre lovers reviewing theatre and sharing tips and tricks for saving money on tickets. Here you can find news, reviews, recommendations and tips.
Reviews will always be the reviewer’s honest opinion. But will be written in a way to give constructive feedback – no negative vibes here. We will always be transparent and show on the review if we’ve been invited to review and therefore have been gifted tickets.
We review West End to Fringe shows and everything in between. We are a team of theatre lovers that want to experience it all! We are OffComm Award Assessors and Amy is an Off West End Award Assessor.
We hope you enjoy having a little scroll through this very stagey corner of the internet x
ABOUT US…
AMY RYE (she/her) – PRINCIPAL CAST MEMBER & FOUNDER
Favourite Show of All Time: Les Misérables
Hey, my name is Amy and I’m a student nurse by day / theatre addict by night. I live in London and spend most of my spare time in the theatre…
Because of this I decided to start reviewing the shows I watch. And sharing my tips and tricks for getting the best deals on tickets. People often wonder how I afford to go to the theatre so much, well it’s because I rarely pay full price, I’m a bargain hunter.
I fell in love with Theatre at school, starring in all the musicals (I can’t sing at all though, so sorry anyone that had to watch me!). The first West End show I saw was The Lion King and i’ve been obsessed with theatre ever since.
Lost in Theatreland was created at the end of 2021, and I have now created this little corner of the internet. So have a little browse, follow me on Twitter and Instagram and enjoy!

JILL JOHNSON (she/her) – PRINCIPAL CAST MEMBER – REVIEWS EDITOR
Favourite Show of All Time: RENT
Hi, I’m Jill! I am a very grateful friend of Amy who is fortunate enough to be a part of her marvelous theatre life. Thanks to my older sister, I became obsessed with musicals at a pretty young age. The first musical I loved is Wicked, and my comfort musical is Rent. When I’m not at the theatre I can be found reading, cooking, or studying as I am currently getting my master’s degree in English literature.

LIT LONDON REVIEWERS
RACHEL AGYEKUM (she/her) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS & INTERVIEWS)

Hi, I’m Rachel – Local Government officer, travel enthusiast and theatre fan! Studying performing arts at school made me fall in love with theatre. I’ve been fortunate to see some amazing West End shows – my favourites being Wicked, Hairspray and Hamilton! I have also taken an interest to fringe theatre and love to support upcoming artists. In my free time, I’m most likely watching Corrie, booking flights or obsessing over Zac Efron. Excited and grateful to be a part of the Lost in Theatreland team!
VICTORIA ROSE (she/her) & BRANDON BORUCH (he/him) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS)

Hi! We are Brandon and Victoria and met at LAMDA where we both trained together and worked on a show of Much Ado about Nothing; Brandon playing Claudio and Victoria stage managing. Since then our journeys have continued together and theatre is a central part of their lives; Brandon most recently performing in the newly written stage play of Hayfever at the Peckham fringe and Victoria has been working at Monopoly lifesized as an ASM. In our spare time we love doing anything creative! Making short films, brainstorming show ideas, as well as nature walks and trips to museums. We mainly will be doing reviews together and are excited to be a part of the Lost in Theatreland team! We think our approach will be interesting because we are from two different areas of the industry and see a show from a complimentary individual perspective. We both love watching new shows and look forward to giving our opinions on a variety of shows.
JENNY SKUSE – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS)
Hi! I’m Jenny, a Drama Teacher and theatre fanatic! I love everything from a big West End Musical to Fringe and Amdram. Particular fan of all things Immersive and anything by the Bard! I loved being in my high school musicals – from Sweet Charity to Grease! In the shower I still like to believe I can sing Defying Gravity with the zeal of Idina Menzel. Other hobbies include ballroom dancing, creative writing and sewing my clothes.
BARBARA MARTINS (she/her) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS)
Favourite Show of All Time – Hadestown/Spring Awakening/Sunday in the Park with George (please, don’t make me choose between the 3 haha)

Hey there, this is Barbara, full-time nerd who spends way too much time in fantasy worlds or writing them into existence. During the pandemic I started a YouTube channel called Barbara 2.0 where I explore shows I know nothing or very little about and the more I discovered new theatre the stronger my already existent love grew. Now, as the phantom would say, I’m “past the point of no return”, and my mission to consume and create theatre continues here at LIT, where I get to think critically and appreciate theatre in yet a new light. In my spare time, I’m a Digital Campaign Manager for a Pop Culture/Gaming company.
TOM CARRAO (he/him) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS)

Hi, I’m Tom, for the past seven years, I have written of my cultural wanderings throughout London at https://tomoutblog.wordpress.com/. As with most contributors to this site, I am most comfortable and fulfilled in a theatre, cinema, art gallery or concert hall.
GEORGE RENNIE (he/him) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS)
Favourite Show of All Time: Cheek by Jowl’s Pericles (Barbican Centre, 2018). The only show I’ve ever booked again straight away. It blended fantasy and reality so expertly, twisting the existing text into a ground-shaking, heartfelt hybrid that honestly left me breathless. Impeccable acting, visionary text-work — a testament to what theatre can be.

George Matthew (he/him) is a writer, theatre-maker and arts marketing guy. He grew up in Brighton and moved to London to bask in the warm glow of the theatre, flitting from stage to stage as both audience member and performer. An early fascination with the silly and strange has developed into a taste for dark comedy, taut drama and peculiar worlds, and he loves Off-West End, Fringe and mixed media shows that revel in the fullness of what it means to be human.
ANNE REIMERS (she/her) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS)
Favourite Show of All Time: Tanz der Vampire (I think it never made it outside of Germany/Austria)

Hi, my name is Anne and I am a photographer, coffee-addict and passionate theatre-lover. It all started when my granny took me to see my first play back in Germany. I think I might have been 7-ish and was fascinated how a story came to life on stage. I was hooked! I joined the school’s drama club and an adult hobby group later on (had to drop it due to my – back then – travel-heavy day job). A couple of years ago, I started my theatre blog in German and am very greatful to do what I love most – watch a play and talk about it – for Lost in Theatreland now.
ZUZANNA CHMIELEWSKA (she/her) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS)

Hi, I’m Zuza, digital marketer by profession, published travel book author, avid theatre goer and an amateur Malaysia tour guide in my free time. Find me in one of London’s theatres, travelling in Asia or cooking and photographing new recipes in my kitchen. Huge fan of Manuel Lin Miranda and creator of random musical-inspired Spotify lists.
JORDAN HAYTER (she/her) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS)
Favourite Show of All Time: Hamilton

Hi, my name is Jordan. I am currently in my third year of studying Journalism at Brunel University, focusing on gaining experience to hopefully go into the reviewing career professionally. I fell in love with theatre from an early age, loving both watching and performing in musicals, plays, etc. Whenever I went to watch shows, I always had so many thoughts that I would want to share with people and from there, my passion for reviewing started.
I also currently am the Theatre Editor for my local paper, The Hillingdon Herald.
JENNIFER LAISHLEY (she/her) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS)
Favourite Show of All Time: Les Miserables/Kinky Boots/& Juliet (I can’t choose!)

Hi I’m Jenny and i’ve been a theatre fan since childhood. I grew up in Gloucestershire singing and dancing my way through life till I ended up working in HR Technology in London. I’m enjoying balancing my HR Career with a love of musical theatre by singing in two choirs and joining a dance troupe! I have enjoyed reviewing everything from fringe theatre in pub basements to big west end shows, and have enjoyed discovering the diversity of theatre in London. I’m really interested in how technical and creative aspects come together to support a performance and push boundaries in theatre.
VALERIA MARQUES (she/her) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS)
Favourite Show of All Time: Wicked

Hi! I’m Val. I’m a Program Manager by day and theatre obsessed at all other times. I’ve always loved theatre but it wasn’t until I moved to London and had access to the West End that my obsession grew beyond control. I love seeing new shows and I tend to obsess over well written strong female characters. I’m also working on my own musical: @sirensthemusical and can’t wait to share it with the world!
ELLIE PRESTON (she/her) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS & INTERVIEWS)
Favourite Show of All Time: (I couldn’t pick just one) Heathers, Les Mis, Legally Blonde and West Side Story.

Hiya, I’m Ellie! I grew up in Lancashire and last year I moved to London for university, but also to live closer to the theatre scene. I’m currently a second year student studying English and Creative Writing, and my favourite part of my course is my Playwriting module. I love workshopping new scripts with my class mates and working on collaborative pieces, and hopefully one day one of my plays will make it on the West End (probably not for a while though haha!).
NATALIE RAYNER – (she/her) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS)
Favourite Show of All Time: The Last Five Years

Natalie is an actor who currently works full-time at the drama school RADA, and spends as much of her free time as possible watching shows. She’s been obsessed with musicals for as long as she can remember, and never lost the desire and determination to perform on stage professionally. Natalie loves anything from big-budget musicals to one-person shows being performed in a tent at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and particularly adores new musicals, especially ones that are a bit strange. Her current obsession is Ride The Cyclone, which definitely ticks that box! When not at work or the theatre, Natalie can usually be found with her nose in a gigantic fantasy novel, or singing loudly in her kitchen. She’s very grateful for the opportunity to write reviews for Lost In Theatreland, and is delighted to be able to subject multiple people to her thoughts about shows, rather than just spewing them unprompted at her long-suffering friends and family members.
MAILÍ NÍ GHORMÁIN (she/her) – UNDERSTUDY CAST MEMBER (REVIEWS)
Favourite Show of All Time: Les Misérables
Hi – I’m Mailí and I’m a freelance theatremaker from Dublin, Ireland, but working in London. I have loved theatre and particularly musical theatre from an early age – my party piece is saying supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards (both ways, for those in the know). I have a degree in English and am currently working towards a Master’s in Musical Theatre. In my spare time you can catch me at the theatre, doing a crossword or watching copious amounts of Doctor Who.

Currently she spends her days looking after her two young children at their family home in Telford. Sammi is thrilled to be joining LIT as part of their Midlands team!

Jennifer is a writer, actor, theatre maker and barista from Manchester. She has previously written plays, short stories and poetry for adults and children, and has performed in venues in Manchester and London. A PISSEDMAS CAROL – REVIEW – LEICESTER SQUARE
The infamous Sh!t Faced Showtime are back in London with a festive edition, they have taken Dickens’ classic and put a drunken spin on it. The formula is the same as other iterations of the Shi!t Faced shows, one member of the cast has been boozing, and this time it is John Milton who plays…
A CHRISTMAS CAROL – REVIEW – ALEXANDRA PALACE
Spine-tingling yet heart-warming, Mark Gatiss’s retelling of A Christmas Carol truly encapsulates the haunting atmosphere of a Victorian ghost story, balanced out with enough humour so as to capture the festive season. Led by Keith Allen as Scrooge, with Peter Forbes as Marley, this show is perfect for Christmas viewing. The set design by Paul Wills is instantly captivating,…
A WOMAN WALKS INTO A BANK – REVIEW – THEATRE503
The title of this winner of Theatre 503’s 2023 International Playwriting Award by Roxy Cook may seem like the set-up to a joke, but the narrative that unspools is instead an affectionate, gently barbed and at base quite sobering portrait of three ordinary souls (and one restless feline) adrift in modern Moscow. There is much…
