Amy chats to Nicolas Jelmoni who is performing in The 7 Fingers: Duel Reality at the Fringe.

Hey – here’s your chance to give an elevator pitch, can you give us a brief synopsis of your show?

Ok here we go, there probably aren’t a lot of skyscrapers in Edinburgh so I’m gonna assume it’s a short elevator ride !! DUEL REALITY is a never seen before and captivating circus performance that tells the story of Romeo & Juliet uniquely, by portraying two competing teams that will stop at nothing to come out on top. With breathtaking acrobatics and a modern twist on a classic tale, the show promises to be an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages.

What attracted or inspired you to create this show?

I had been working with The 7 Fingers on and off for a little bit but when Shana Carroll the director of the show asked me to join her for the first workshops of the show it was the first time that I would be part of the creation of a new show. On top of the excitement of being an original cast member I was excited to tell one of the most famous love stories in the world in an acrobatic way but also to reinvent this tragedy that has been told already so many times.

Have you performed at the fringe before? What are the best and worst parts of performing at the fringe? Or if it’s your first time, what are you most excited about?

Even though I have already performed in Edinburgh I was never lucky enough to be there during the Fringe. I have done a few festivals in Australia and what I loved about it so much was the fact that there are so many shows performing at the same time and the community that is created around it. I’m a ‘people person’, I fuel myself with the energy of others and being surrounded by so many friends and other talented human beings at the top of their arts is going to be amazing.

What are the main themes within the show, and what can audiences expect?

It might sound a bit ‘cliché’ but of course, I would have to say that the conflict and duality between love and hate is at the core of the story we are trying to tell. On an even broader perspective that is so important these days, I would say also the understanding of how destructive hatred and anger can be.

Wow, that was a bit intense, are we still in an elevator because I got pretty passionate right now, guess we can add that one to the theme list: PASSION !!

Finally, with so many shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, why should people book a ticket to this one?

I might be biased but first of all, because this might be the coolest and most talented cast I’ve ever worked with (covering my tracks in case any of them read this q&a !!). And besides that, the show is beautiful, exciting and immersive as audience members are split up in two, cheering for the success of their team in this acrobatic face-off.

Romance, drama and breathtaking circus performances, book tickets, you won’t be disappointed !!!

The 7 Fingers: Duel Reality is on at Underbelly’s Circus Hub on the Meadows from 4th – 26th August at 8.30pm – find out more here!
