INTERVIEW – DAN PARTRIDGE – GREASE

Ellie chats to Dan Partridge, who stars as Danny in Grease, coming to the Dominion Theatre in June.

How are you feeling ahead of opening?

Very excited! This production of Grease is brilliant and I’m looking forward to West End audiences enjoying the show again.

Are you excited to be returning to the role of Danny for this new run of Grease?

Definitely, I’m looking forward to continuing to explore the character and having fun with the new actors joining us.

Do you think your interpretation of the character will be any different in this run in comparison to last year?

For sure. The role always changes with new people to play opposite. Unpacking the toxic masculinity traits of Danny, that are ingrained from the era, is always part of the process, I also want to find his vulnerabilities and sensitive side too.

What would you say is your favourite moment of the musical?

I love the whole ‘Greased Lightnin’ sequence. You can feel a tangible sense of excitement in the theatre as the audience love it too.

You’ve been in some amazing shows like the European and South Korea Tour of Cats and the UK tour of Hairspray, what would you say has been your biggest career highlight so far?

I would have to say that opening in Grease last year is the highlight. It was my debut as a West End leading man, so it was a huge moment for me.

If you could play any other character in Grease for one night only, who would you pick and why?

Rizzo. Who wouldn’t want to play Rizzo?!

What would you say was your favourite memory from the run last year?

The first show was special, but the closing show was amazing. The energy in the theatre was electric!

If you could give Danny Zuko a piece of advice, what would you tell him?

Get a job!

Finally, why should audiences buy a ticket to Grease?

It’s the perfect night out at the theatre. The familiarity of the songs we all know and love, but with a refreshed and exciting new take on Grease.
