FlawBored is a disability-led theatre company, and It’s A Motherf**cking Pleasure is their debut show, a darkly comedic satire.

The cast of three enters the space, introducing themselves to the audience and explaining that their aim for this show is to be as accessible as possible. They each audio describe themselves, and the show is captioned.

As previously stated this is satire, and contains some gloriously dark humour, they set the tone of this from the start, with Samuel Brewer asking the audience if anyone has heard of the social model of disability. When hands are raised he quickly retorts that he cannot see anyone’s hands, followed by “that was a little blind joke”. The cast also asked if anyone in the room is non-disabled, reminding them to check their privilege. 

The show centres around RIZE, a huge PR agency, Tim, played by Brewer is a talent manager, he is also blind. An incident of ableism occurs at the agency, which means that all staff are required to undergo training on how to support people with disabilities. Helen from HR (Chloe Palmer) soon begins suffering from able anxiety following this, forever trying to be PC but scared of slipping up, meaning she overcompensates repeatedly. Meanwhile, Ross (Aarian Mehrabani), an influencer is trying to make it big with the help of Tim. 

The captions projected onto the back wall set up many jokes throughout the show. An audience member is required to read these out at one point. The writing isn’t just intelligent, it’s genius, and this script is delivered in a sharp, slick, and hilarious manner by the cast. Their comedic timing is impeccable throughout but In particular, Brewer, whose deadpan facial expressions heighten the effects of the darkly humorous lines. All three performers work in harmony together, all proving excellent comedians throughout. 

The show becomes increasingly chaotic throughout the runtime. It’s well paced with the momentum never ceasing, 55 minutes pass by in a flash. 

It’s A Motherf**king Pleasure is refreshing, hysterically funny, and a stroke of pure brilliance. Aiming to challenge our views, create awareness, and dismantle the stereotypes society has of disabled people, the show does all this through a satirical lens, keeping the show funny and light-hearted, whilst subtly delivering its true more serious message. This is one of the funniest shows I’ve seen this year, and that’s not able anxiety talking, it’s just that good. It was an absolute motherf**king pleasure to watch this, and I can’t wait to see what is next for FlawBored.
